A guestimated crowd of 7,200 showed up at Scottrade Center Sunday for FANfest. The second annual event seemed to be a hit again.

Before the scrimmage began, the Blues unveiled their new 3rd jersey, which will be worn at 10 home games and five road games this season. Paul Kariya told the fans that he thought it was the best 3rd jersey he’s ever season, and several players echoed those sentiments in the locker room.

“The jerseys are real nice,” Blues defenseman Eric Brewer said. “They did a wonderful job. The colors are great. They just might have the best third jersey in the league, for sure.”

The lineups for the scrimmage featured a roster of Blues players vs. a roster of prospects, and the NHLers prevailed 4-2. Roman Polak, David Backes, Keith Tkachuk and Jay McClement scored for the big boys, while Patrik Berglund and Cam Paddock netted goals for the “little guys.”

“It’s perfect for us . . . we were trying to do as good as we can and make them look bad,” defense Jonus Junland said.

It didn’t quite work out that way, but the prospects held there own.

“It was a lot of fun,” Junland said. “We put up a good fight. It felt good out there.”

T.J. Oshie played with the prospect team and continued to play aggressive. He seems to throw his body around on every play. He was even physical on the penalty-kill unit, which he may be a surprising contributor on this season.

Patrik Berglund scored for the prospects team Sunday. A strong back-check made the goal possible. After Berglund went back in his own zone for the puck, Matt Foy dropped it for Berglund in the offensive end, and Berglund ripped a wrist shot past Manny Legace.

“I think I had a really good back-check,” Berglund said. “I read the play and . . . I just kept going. Foy dropped the puck and I kind of did my speciality (a lengthy wrist shot). I scored four of those in Traverse City. I just shoot like that and the puck goes in.”

Berglund is expected to be on a line with Paul Kariya in Monday’s exhibition game against LA in Kansas City.

“I really feel that I’m ready to show what I can do,” Berglund said.k “I felt it out there (Sunday). When I got the puck, I took it and I skated with it and I tried to do stuff with it. I had a couple of really good chances out there, and I think when I play with Paul Kariya and some other players on the NHL team, I can be even better.”
