St. Louis Blues defenseman Erik Johnson to have surgery Wednesday
Blues defenseman Erik Johnson will have surgery on his right knee Wednesday at the Rochester Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
Johnson’s MCL has healed itself since the injury, which happened in September, but his ACL will need to be repaired during the surgery.
I talked to Johnson last night and he was excited to finally have the surgery. The injury happened just before training camp, but doctors waited for the swelling to go down and for everything else to be just right. There’s no rush because returning for the 2008-09 season wasn’t possible, and now Johnson can use the summer to complete his rehab. Also, Johnson had to decide where to have the surgery done, and who would handle it. He told me that Dr. Mike Stuart will perform the surgery.
Johnson said after the surgery, he’ll be ready to work out like a “mad man.” He couldn’t believe the injury to Andy McDonald and said the Blues must be getting all of their serious injuries out of the way this season.
If you want to hear from Johnson, he is scheduled to be a guest on “The Low Down” with myself and Reed Low Wednesday night between 6-8 p.m. on KFNS, and I will have more on his surgery in Thursday’s Post-Dispatch.

In other news, the Blues claimed forward B.J. Crombeen off waivers today from Dallas.

I find it strange that Johnson is not with the team this season
