How does King’s absence affect Janssen’s role?
The Blues are still not saying what is wrong with D.J. King and how long he’ll be out. Sources have said that King has a dislocated shoulder and will probably need surgery, causing him to miss as much as three months of the season. But until the Blues talk, we can only go by what we’re hearing.
So assuming King is out for several months, will the Blues have to react? Andy Murray says “No.”
“I think Cam (Janssen) is a legitimate heavyweight,” Murray said. “I think Roman (Polak) is a very, very legitimate heavyweight. He’s maybe the toughest guy on our team. We’ve got (Barret Jackman). We’ve got lots of team toughness. . . . We’re probably the only team (in the division) that had a couple of those guys.”
Janssen says he’ll be able to handle his own in the ring.
“This (King’s injury) doesn’t change anything,” Janssen said. ”I’ve been doing this my whole life. Every team I’ve ever played on, I never had another guy in that category help me out. I’m used to it. It’s too bad because me and (King) could have done some good things together. You never know what’s going to happen with him, but I’ve got to take care of business. I’ve been doing it my whole NHL career and it’s not going to change anything.”

Lee Stempniak, who has missed four games with a knee injury, went through a full practice Monday.
“It looks like (Stempniak) is ready to play,” Murray said. “We’ll see how he practices (Tuesday), how he feels, and then we’ll see how he looks on Wednesday.”
Stempniak was re-inserted on a line with Andy McDonald and Brad Boyes, where Stempniak had success prior to his injury.
“When a guy is out for a short period of time like ‘Stemper,’ you had a reason to put him in that spot to begin with . . . he played well there and he deserves to go back there,” Murray said.

Patrik Berglund missed Saturday’s game with what the Blues called an upper-body injury. Berglund was legitimately nicked up with what was believed to be a sore shoulder. But was Berglund’s absence more related to his sub-par play than his minor injury?
“Nothing is wrong. Yes, I could have played (Saturday),’ Berglund said. “I had a bad game against Dallas and they wanted to try something else. I have to work harder. I had a good practice today and hopefully I’m in the lineup against Detroit.”
Berglund practiced Monday on his regular line with Paul Kariya and David Perron and is expected to play Wednesday against Detroit.
“I have to pick it up, the intensity,” Berglund said. ”It’s fast out there. I have to get used to it. I think the tempo and stuff, the intensity is hard, but I think I need to win some more battles in the corners and try to be stronger.”

Jeff Woywitka (foot), Jonus Junland (shoulder) and Alex Pietrangelo (soreness from boarding hit in Toronto) are all ready to return on defense, which will force the Blues to make some decisions on the blue line very soon.
Here are the current d-pairings:
Eric Brewer-Steve Wagner
Jay McKee-Roman Polak
Barret Jackman-Mike Weaver
So who goes?
Wagner?
“Steve is getting better and better,” Murray said. “You’ve got to remember, he missed half a season last year (with a broken leg). You’d have to expect that it would take him a little while.”
Weaver?
“I think Mike Weaver has played real well for two games,” Murray said.
Does Pietrangelo go back to junior hockey? He’s only played three games, and the Blues don’t have to send him back until after nine (if that’s what they choose to do).
“I would imagine around game six or seven, there would be a lot more discussion than there is right now (regarding Pietrangelo),” Murray said. “We’ve got so many games left, there’s so many things that are open.”
Who do you think stays and who goes?
“We don’t have to make any decisions until 5 o’clock on Wednesday, so we’ll evaluate it,” Murray said. “We’ve got to see where we’re at.”

Ben Bishop arrived to practice Monday with a smile on his face. The goalie prospect from St. Louis will backup Manny Legace in Wednesday’s game against Detroit.
Legace said Bishop doesn’t seem overwhelmed by his surroundings.
“It was intimidating for me when I was growing up, but these young kids come in with a different attitude and it seems like nothing fazes them anymore,” Legace said. “I don’t think he’s fazed at all. These young kids, they’re used to everything these days.”
Bishop gives the Blues three St. Louisans on their roster with Janssen and Yan Stastny.
“Three of us on a team, that’s unbelievable,” Janssen said. ”You would have never thought that 10 years ago.”

We’ll miss King, but we’ll be fine. Janssen won’t back down from anybody.
If I were to pick one guy to get rid of on defense it would be Weaver. He just looks small out there and has trouble fighting for the puck.
