T.J. Oshie’s return gives St. Louis Blues a boost
If T.J. Oshie can play as good as he’s been dressing lately, Blues fans will be happy. The other day, Oshie was donning a flashy, grey pinstripe suit.
“It’s a little too standout-ish for me, but oh well . . .,” Oshie said.
How much does a fancy suit go for these days . . . $1,000, $2,000?
“I don’t know, I haven’t gotten the bill yet,” Oshie said. “I’m sure I’ll see it soon.”
More importantly, Blues fans will see Oshie in the lineup later tonight. He has missed 24 of the last 26 games with a high-ankle sprain, but he’ll make his return against New Jersey. He missed 13 games with the ankle sprain and then after playing Dec. 5 against Calgary, he reinjured his ankle Dec. 6 against Phoenix.
“I thought was ready to come back (last time), but the only thing was that scar tissue that was still in there,” Oshie said. “That scar tissue is gone now. It still pops every once in a while, but not a bad pop. It feels good, it feels strong.”
Oshie return gives the Blues some more skill up front. He’s going to play on wing on the Blues top line tonight. Here’s what the Blues’ top three lines should look like against New Jersey:
T.J. Oshie-Keith Tkachuk-David Backes
David Perron-Patrik Berglund-Brad Boyes
Alex Steen-Jay McClement-B.J. Crombeen

Blues coach Andy Murray wouldn’t say which of the 13 forwards was sitting tonight, but judging by the smile on Cam Janssen’s face, it appears he’ll be in the lineup against his old team tonight.
“I’m pumped,” Janssen said this morning. “It’s kind of bizarre just seeing them . . . but you know what, it’s going to be fun. I can’t wait to battle with Clarkie (David Clarkson). I wish Colin White, he’s a good buddy of mine, I wish he was in the lineup. But unfortunately he’s injured. . . . It’s gonna be good to battle with them because it’s definitely business on the ice. They know how I battle and what to expect out of me.”
Janssen, a popular figure in New Jersey, did about 27 interviews this morning with the visiting media. Yan Stastny, a close friend of Janssen’s, just shook his head as he walked by Janssen’s stall 20 minutes after practice and Janssen was still yapping.
With Janssen in, only two of these three will be in: Brad Winchester, Yan Stastny and Dan Hinote

Of course with Janssen facing the Devils for the first time, that means former Blues defenseman Bryce Salvador is back in St. Louis for the first time since the two were traded for each other last season.
Salvador has two goals and four assists in 28 games, and he’s a minus-1 this season. Salvador was seen chatting it up with several ex-teammates before the Devils skated this morning, but unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to speak with him . . . perhaps tonight.
One of the Blues players talking with Salvador this morning was Jay McKee, who surprisingly has been practicing the past couple of days. His return could be bumped up from the 4-6 week timetable originally announced.
McKee’s ring finger on his left hand is still broken, still swollen and has a number of stitches, but he has been stick-handling and shooting.
“The key thing with Jay is, he feels a lot better,” Murray said. “When he took his glove off today, I just wanted to make sure that the tip of his finger wasn’t still in it. His tip was basically right off, it was hanging. It’s amazing that he’s out there right now, taking shots.”
Regarding a timetable, Murray said: “Well, it’s broken, but he’s shooting the puck. Maybe it’s what he needed . . . the bionic hand . . . all of the sudden he’s going to be a power-play guy.”
