Berglund makes all-rookie team; Adams is second in Adams voting
Patrik Berglund was named to the NHL’s all-rookie team on Thursday, and Andy Murray finished second in voting for the Adams Award as coach of the year. It wasn’t terribly close. Winner Claude Julien got 35 first-place votes to Murray’s 15, and he won 224 to 135. (Todd McLellan was third with 98 votes, and nine first-place votes.)
To show you what Murray had to work with, consider the all-star voting. Only three Blues were among the 85 players to get an all-star vote: Brad Boyes (seventh) and David Backes (13th) at right wing and Chris Mason at goalie. And frankly, considering that Mason got one first-place vote and nothing else, I’m not sure that someone wasn’t trying to vote for Steve Mason of Columbus and voted for Chris by mistake. (That’s not to say that Chris didn’t have a good year, but, …)
In other voting:
Berglund was seventh and T.J. Oshie 8th in Calder Trophy voting for rookie of the year.
Oshie got 1 second-place vote. Berglund got no seconds, but 10 thirds.
Boyes was 16th in the Lady Byng, Berglund tied for 55th (he got one fourth-place vote).
Jay McClement was 31st for the Selke as top defensive forward. He was named on four ballots. To show you how tough it is to vote for the Selke, 27 players got votes for the Hart as MVP, while 70 players got votes for the Selke. As someone who has voted on these things in the past (though not this year), coming up with five people to vote for the Selke is the toughest part of the ballot.
