Two brokers are “best places” once again
Both Edward Jones and A.G. Edwards are repeat winners on this year’s Fortune magazine list of the 100 best companies to work for. Jones ranks 29th and Edwards ranks 99th on the latest list. A.G. Edwards says it is among just six companies included in all 12 incarnations of the list, 10 in Fortune and two in books. Jones was No. 1 in 2002 and 2003 but missed the list in 2004, when the firm was in the midst of a revenue-sharing scandal.
Both firms have slipped since last year, when Jones placed 16th and Edwards 70th.
Here’s what Fortune says about the two companies:
Jones: In 2006 the number of limited partnerships was expanded from 4,535 to nearly 12,000, more than a third of employees.
Edwards: Brokerage house tries to be more down-to-earth than its Wall Street brethren: An employee chorus serenades colleagues at St. Louis HQ, and corporate tickets to Cardinals games are distributed among employees.
