MEMC is subject of takeover rumor
Jon Najarian, writing on TheStreet.com, includes MEMC Electronic Materials on a list of companies that were mentioned in takeover rumors last week. He argues that a surge in such talk is “an encouraging sign that capitalistic optimism is returning to the markets.” And here’s what he heard about our local silicon-wafer manufacturer:
MEMC Electronic Materials: A rumor that BASF could buy drove shares to $19.26 from $15.26.
The prices he mentions were MEMC’s intraday high on Thursday and intraday low last Monday. For the week, the stock was up 23.5 percent. This morning’s trading, however, reminds us that sometimes a rumor is only a rumor: MEMC is down nearly 10 percent at $16.59.

another local company (spin off of Monsanto) heading to the east coast…
FYI, jim, BASF headquarters does lie east of here, but it’s in Ludwigshafen, Germany, which isn’t close to any coast.
