Be careful of the comparisons you make
I did a double take when I read the headline of a news release from the Renewable Fuels Association: “What the Music Man and ethanol have in common.”
The RFA is trying to be clever:
with apologies to Meredith Wilson, ‘we got trouble’ Right here in River City, we got trouble, and that starts with T and that rhymes with E and that stands for one heck of a lousy Economy.
Now, I’m from Iowa and I’m glad this show is coming to the Muny, but isn’t Harold Hill really a huckster? Is that a comparison a lobbying group really wants to invite?
(By the way, the ethanol folks misspelled Willson’s name. He used a double “l.”)

I would say the line and the title achieved its purpose: it got your attention. I sincerely hope you got past the Music Man reference and took the time to read the whole speech and gain a greater understanding of America’s ethanol industry as it stands today.
If not, you and your readers can read the speech in its entirety, including a discussion of the very real challenges facing this nation and this industry, at http://www.ethanolrfa.org.
