Stimulus needs time to work, Illinois economist says
It’s too early to talk about the need for additional fiscal stimulus, University of Illinois economist J. Fred Giertz says. He believes the recession will end this year, and notes that most of this year’s $787 billion stimulus package hasn’t been spent yet. In a news brief issued by the university, Giertz adds:
It would be premature to consider a second stimulus before we see the results of the first. Given that 90 percent of the first package still hasn’t been spent, a second probably wouldn’t be spent for another year or more. By then, the economy could be back on track and more stimulus could make things worse instead of better.
I made a similar point in a recent column, and my colleague Tim Logan detailed how St. Louis has yet to see most of its share of the stimulus money.

David Nicklaus has covered St. Louis business for more than 25 years. His column appears three days a week on the Post-Dispatch business page.
Talk about dancing bears!!! All these clowns dancing to the Obama tune that keep saying, “just wait, it will work soon”. Yea, and Christmas eventually comes each year and its not because of the Stimulus. This was a political Con job, just like the rest of the Obama Administration plans for Cap and Con(or tax) take your pick; This Government take-over of healthcare……gotta have them NOW..don’t wait…disaster if you do…Bull$hit…….Is this the Con job you voted for?
