About the research
The Post-Dispatch analysis included five years of traffic stop data which more than 700 law enforcement agencies are required to file with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office. The information includes detailed statistics on numbers of traffic stops, citations and warnings issued by each agency. To create the citation rate per person, the number of citations was compared to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2007 American Community Survey population rates. Square mile measurements of municipalities recorded in the 2000 Census were used to create the ratio of traffic citations per square mile.

Rock Hill is horrible. Whilst driving down Manchester I was going 31 in a 30 and got nabbed. It cannot be a fun job to constantly pull people over for barely breaking the speed limit. They do have nice police cars though. They have the new Hemi Charger’s. I gave them $150 towards the purchase of a new one…..unfortunately.
I say the more tickets, the better…that results in fewer accidents. If these people are breaking the law they should be stopped. I live in one of the so called “speed traps” and feel safer knowing the streets are well patrolled. Keep up the good work!
I’m surprised Ballwin’s isn’t higher. When the construction was going on for almost 2 years on Clayton Road, they seemed to constantly have someone pulled over. Well, except when someone was on my tail for trying to maintain the unreasonable 25 mph speed limit, particularly in the morning hours during rush hour traffic or on the weekends….
What a bunch of rats. I hope Missouri goes through with putting an end to this abuse of the law.
I specifically do not patronize business in Rock Hill because I am afraid of the police. Congratulations on the loss of my business.
Impressive map. Why am I not suprised Charlack is near the top?
Will someone please investigate Bella Villa? Something seems a little odd, especially considering my backyard is as big as their whole city.
Don’t know if it’s still true, but a couple of years ago, it was rumored that Rock Hill was generating more than $250,000/year from traffic stops along Manchester and McKnight. Don’t know how much of that is purely in the name of revenue generation, but I know Officer Ziegler is an equal opportunity kind of guy. He’ll bust the high rollers as well as the soccer moms. Also, and maybe it’s by design, he nails plenty of riff raff wanted on other charges in other municipalities, too. Does this extreme enforcement cut down on accidents related to speeding? I certainly have my doubts.
This reminds me of a little trap muni just outside of Ft Polk, Louisiana. New Llano covered about .8 miles between the Fort and the larger town of Leesville. I was one of the lucky ones who never got a ticket on that stretch of road. I found a backdoor out off base.
