Whoever organized the events around this game should be fired. First Obama wears a White Sox jacket in St. Louis? Couldn’t someone have advised him of this fau-pas? Then Stan the Man is treated like an after thought. Followed by Sheryl Crow singing the American anthem, but the Canadian anthem was a canned insturmental played over the loud speakers? Couldn’t they find someone - anyone to sing the damn song? The Blues know people who can do it. Or better yet, bring in a Canadian like Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, or Shania Twain to do the job. Even Justin Morneau was disgusted by the treatment and made a point of it to the Canadian media.
What gives with this continued disrespect of Canada by MLB? Is it symbolic of how we feel about the best neighbour we could possibly have? First the Marine color guard flys their flag upside down during the Atlanta World Series - the international sign for distress. Then last year, the Dodgers eject a group of Canadian fans for waving their flag during the 7th inning stretch against the Blue Jays? It’s no wonder fans in Toronto are snubbing MLB. Even with a winning team for the first three months of this season, and one of the best pitchers in the game, they’re not selling out. Most games barely reach 50 percent capacity now. But, this is the team that set the MLB record with 4 million fans per season right before the strike. Now they’re lucky to barely get 2 million for a season.
As a sporting business, MLB sure knows how to shoot itself in the foot and make our country look like A-holes!
Panoramas are so 90’s. Where’s the Gigapan image like they one at the inaugural?
