Thursday’s dinner pick: Bristol

One of the area’s great deals is the at-cost whole lobster, during happy hour in the bar only at Bristol, 11801 Olive in Creve Coeur.



Joe Bonwich has been the restaurant critic for the Post-Dispatch since 2002 and has covered the local food scene for various publications for more than 25 years. He does his best to maintain his anonymity so that he isn't recognized in restaurants (which is why his picture looks like it does).
about 6 months ago had the worst, unexpected experience ever at bristol’s-pretty good server but way substandard food (i.e. completely ”phoned-in” caesar salad!) for bristol’s olive. at that time we dined with friends and didn’t want to seem critical to the server/management, to remain courteous. a few weeks afterward found out that the other couple was equally disappointed in the evening. sent emails but never rec’d a response. bottom line: amid a lousy economy and lots of respectable competition in the local marketplace, cannot justify a return trip to bristol’s–what a shame!
