Monday’s lunch pick: Crown Candy Kitchen
Return with us now to a simpler time of Johnny Rabbit specials (a fresh banana malt with whipped cream, nuts and nutmeg, still on the menu some 40 years after they were named) and malt-shop diner food. The high-stacked BLT is a sight to behold, and at $6.50 it’s at the top of the price range at Crown Candy Kitchen, 1401 St. Louis Avenue.

Joe Bonwich has been the restaurant critic for the Post-Dispatch since 2002 and has covered the local food scene for various publications for more than 25 years. He does his best to maintain his anonymity so that he isn't recognized in restaurants (which is why his picture looks like it does).
MMM the Best! Crown’s was my first job as well! A lot of fun working there and working with the Karandzieff’s and the twins.
A great memory is when I got to pack candy with George and he said, “You know…you can eat some of that candy while your packing it.” Needless to say, this was the first year I got over a 100lbs as I was petite. LOL all the food is great as well as the Sundaes, malts and special chocolates! If you’ve never experienced this - You HAVE to! If you already have, DO IT AGAIN!
