Return with us now to a simpler time of Johnny Rabbit specials (a fresh banana malt with whipped cream, nuts and nutmeg, still on the menu some 40 years after they were named) and malt-shop diner food. The high-stacked BLT is a sight to behold, and at $6.50 it’s at the top of the price range at Crown Candy Kitchen, 1401 St. Louis Avenue.

MMM the Best! Crown’s was my first job as well! A lot of fun working there and working with the Karandzieff’s and the twins. :-) A great memory is when I got to pack candy with George and he said, “You know…you can eat some of that candy while your packing it.” Needless to say, this was the first year I got over a 100lbs as I was petite. LOL all the food is great as well as the Sundaes, malts and special chocolates! If you’ve never experienced this - You HAVE to! If you already have, DO IT AGAIN!

Growing up in St. Louis and attending church at 4th Baptist meant a weekly outing to Crown Candy Kitchen. The malts are to die for and the company cant be beat! My dad & mom went to Crowns while dating and they passed the love of this place on to the next generation. If you havent been there…its time to go! BTW…a bowl of chili and malt cant be beat!

This place has ruined BLT’s for me in all other establishments. The once or twice I have ordered them elsewhere, they just don’t begin to compare to Crown’s. How they get that much bacon cooked that perfectly is beyond me.

I think I’m overdue for a trip downtown….

OMG!!!!! You talking about GREAT!!! This place is off the chain!!! The ice cream, the food and the candy CANNOT be beat. I went on my first ice cream date there some 23 years ago and fell in love with the place. Twenty three years later I take my kids and my wife and we all love it. We’re there at least once a month after church. I used to go there and browse the 14th Street shopping mall(which is making a comeback) and ended my trip with ice cream from Crowns. You’re TRULY missing something if you’ve never been. The Lover’s Delight is to live for!!!!!

Vanilla milk shake and an egg salad sandwich!!! Has to be the best lunch ever. Was the first milk shake my daughter ever had and it is still her favorite.

I am a way-out-of-town visitor who was taken there for the best of St. Louis, and it IS!
