Posts under this title (Jambalaya) will contain all the various tidbits and leftovers that have gathered on my desk.

Big news of the day: Phil Noe, longtime chef at the Blue Water Grill and recently of SqWires, will soon debut his own place, Mia Rosa, at 4501 Manchester Avenue in the Grove. The menu will be “rustic, coastal Italian” (read: lots of seafood) and the dining room will seat about 110 inside, with another 25 or so seats on a rear patio. Latest opening estimate: “Mid-July.”

A poster on the Eat At Joe’s forum asked about the Buzzetta (Brother-in-Law, Benedetto’s, Limoncello) family’s new venture in Lafayette Square that I first reported about six months ago. That would be Paul Buzzetta’s new place, Paolo’s Cucina Italiana at 1016 Mississippi. I talked to Paul today and he said that “sometime this summer” would be his best guess. It’s a major gut-rehab with all the associated permit and weather difficulties, but the good news is that the roof is on and the storefront façade should be done this week. New guesstimated opening: “Late Summer.”

And if you were a fan of the old Salvatore’s restaurant, also on Mississippi Ave. in Lafayette Square, I recently heard from Mariann and Salvatore D’Ippolito, who are now doing Tastes of Salvatore’s private dinner parties in home kitchens. You can reach Mariann at 314-647-4532.

Congratulations to executive chef Aidan Murphy of Old Warson Country Club, who added to his incredible trophy room with a first-place award in the wine-and-food-pairing category and third place overall in the Global Chefs Challenge last month at the World Association of Chefs Society in Dubai.

If you’re a barbecue nut, be sure to mark your calendar for June 17-18, when the great god of ‘cue Steven Raichlen wafts through town in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary Edition of “The Barbecue! Bible.” Steven has a presentation and Q&A at 7 p.m. Tuesday the 17th at the St. Louis Jewish Book Festival at the Wohl Building of the JCCA, 2 Millstone Campus Drive off of Schuetz Road in Creve Coeur ($8 fee); he’ll also be signing books from noon until 3 p.m. Wednesday 6/18 at the Kirkwood Farmers Market, 150 E. Argonne Dr.

One last-minute update: The new pizza joint by Pappy’s, the U. and Buffalo Brewing Co. just east of St. Louis U. will be called The Good Pie.

That’s all the ingredients I can fit into this pot! (Check the site or your newspaper Wednesday and Thursday for my review of Vito and Michele Racanelli’s new place, Onesto.)

What happened to the Mosaic location in Kirkwood? The sign is down, and it has been removed from Mosaic’s website.

I’d like to know where the pizza in the photo is from. It sure ain’t that crap at Imo’s or any other version of puke worthy “St. louis” style with vomit inducing provel cheese. Isn’t about time St. Louisans just gave up on this whole provel experiment? I think crime in the city would go down 30% if Imo’s shut it’s doors.
