“Man v. Food” St. Louis episode: Wed. 9 p.m.
The Travel Channel’s “Man v. Food” highlights St. Louis in Wednesday night’s episode, with host Adam Richman visiting Iron Barley for a Monte Cristo dog, Pappy’s for barbecue and Crown Candy for the show’s centerpiece, in which he takes the Malt Milkshake Challenge, five 24-ounce malts in 30 minutes.
Richman also talks at length about Pappy’s (and about our cold weather) in his weekly Vlog.
The St. Louis episode repeats at 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., as well as 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Joe Bonwich has been the restaurant critic for the Post-Dispatch since 2002 and has covered the local food scene for various publications for more than 25 years. He does his best to maintain his anonymity so that he isn't recognized in restaurants (which is why his picture looks like it does).
If you haven’t eaten at Pappy’s you owe it to yourself to make the trip. Excellent food, good prices, and conscientious staff.
Great selections! These are probably my favorite 3 places in STL. Love the show…and this guy can eat…but I don’t think he’ll finish the milkshakes.
Adam Richman is MY HERO!!! Every episode of this show is GREAT!
HE DOMINATES!
This show is great. Guzzling milkshakes that fast…. I have to imagine the brain freeze might be harder to cope with than actually getting full.
Nothing could be better than a bowl of chili and a chocolate malt at Crown’s. God Bless John Wayne.
These are much better choices than the destinations selected when Rachel Ray came to town. I think her producers selected based on geographical convenience rather than culinary excellence or unique offerings.
The Food Network also fell woefully short during Alton Brown’s motorcycle trek when they insisted that of all the foods with which St. Louis could be identified, the city is famous for… donuts???
Cheers to the Travel Channel producers for actually doing research. Jeers to Food Network for phoning it in, or simply trusting the hotel concierge.
He didn’t try to conquor Pointer’s Pizzasauraus? Coward!
guy fieti already did iron barley on his show “diners drive-ins and dives”, but i am not arguing against it being featured twice. mario batelli had a show that highlighted t-ravs and the hill on food network, maybe that’s why some of the other hosts decided to “branch out” from the standards? and please don’t compare rachey ray to alton brown, that’s just insulting
What about the Pointasaurus Pizza challenge!! How can he not come to St. Louis and not take on that challenge? Wimp!
Hyngry Hippo, if I recall, the the donut segment was from Alton’s second visit through St. Louis. His first trip through had a little more.
