Steve Scherrer now at Mosaic, plus other news
Steve Scherrer, who made a name for himself in the local restaurant community with Arthur Clay’s in Maplewood, has resurfaced as a member of the staff of Mosaic downtown. The innovative Claus Schmitz, owner of Mosaic, plans to open a late-night lounge aspect of the restaurant July 3 and has an additional expansion up his sleeve for the fall.
Meanwhile, online posters from the Grove neighborhood were buzzing that the old JaBoni’s/El Mundo Latino space is being rehabbed and speculated that a pizza joint might be in the offing. No specific tenant is signed yet, however, according to Pete Rothschild, the building’s landlord. The good news, however, is that the plate glass doors and windows at the building’s entrance have been unboarded, which will lead to a much more inviting interior. And in the Boulevard Heights neighborhood (6625 Morganford, to be exact), the former location of the Haven looks like it may have a new occupant. If my online sleuthing is correct, one of the new owners is John Gasperi, who’s also associated with O’Leary’s in Sunset Hills.

Joe Bonwich has been the restaurant critic for the Post-Dispatch since 2002 and has covered the local food scene for various publications for more than 25 years. He does his best to maintain his anonymity so that he isn't recognized in restaurants (which is why his picture looks like it does).
I have to say that Mosiac has just hired the most talented and creative chef in St.Louis, Stephen Scherrer.
