Allons enfants! Bastille Day at Chez Leon
Our town’s most romantic and authentic French restaurant, Chez Leon, hosts its annual Bastille Day festival July 14, featuring live music, toasts, and Francophile extraordinaire Leon Bierbaum leading diners in a rousing rendition of the Marseillaise. It’s a prix-fixe menu, although there are options on several of the five courses. Cost is $75 per person plus tax and gratuity — not inexpensive, but Leon and his brigade pull out all the stops for this one. For reservations, call 314-361-1589.
Also upcoming at Chez Leon is a meal pairing the foods and wines of southwest of France. That one is $55 for five courses, four wines and crème de pêche with dessert.

Joe Bonwich has been the restaurant critic for the Post-Dispatch since 2002 and has covered the local food scene for various publications for more than 25 years. He does his best to maintain his anonymity so that he isn't recognized in restaurants (which is why his picture looks like it does).
Sorry, but that’s a little pricey now especially when everybody is living day-to-day not knowing if they will have a job tomorrow or a house to live in. My advice ’save your money’ you never know when you’ll need that $150 couple’s dinner plus tax and gratuity of 20% + 8% = $45.00 + $150 meal price $200=too much!
You know, you could save money and have more fun coming to Soulard’s annual Bastille Day…
A great event at Chez Leon. My wife and I have attended this in the past. The food and service are always excellent. They pull out all of the stops. You would think you’re in Paris!
