Cary McDowell takes his “farm to table” approach to Winslow’s Home in U. City
Winslow’s Home already operates its own farm, currently growing vegetables and raising heritage chickens, in the Defiance/Augusta area. “It’s a gorgeous place, with rolling hills and a lake,” Cary said. “I expect we’ll be able to do lots of ‘dining in the field’ type events.”
The first such event will be a benefit for Food Outreach at the farm on September 12. Tickets are $225; for more information, call 314-652-3663, ext. 118. or click here.
McDowell described his parting with Pettus as “very amicable.” He noted that the long commute and frequent nights away from home were difficult for his family.
Clarksville Station is currently interviewing chefs. Meanwhile, long-time food professional Beth Huch has joined the Clarksville Station staff.

Joe Bonwich has been the restaurant critic for the Post-Dispatch since 2002 and has covered the local food scene for various publications for more than 25 years. He does his best to maintain his anonymity so that he isn't recognized in restaurants (which is why his picture looks like it does).
I hope with his leaving that the very limited daytime menu on Saturdays and Sundays will go back to the regular menu. People don’t drive that distance on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon to eat chicken strips.
