St. Louis area shut out in “Favorite Farmers Market” contest
P-D Restaurant Critic and Food Writer
The results came out this week, and none of our fine area markets made the top 20. (Markets were divided into small, medium and large categories, so 60 in total were named.)
In fairness, market masters had to register their markets to receive votes, and I’m not sure how many local markets even made the effort.

Joe Bonwich has been the restaurant critic for the Post-Dispatch since 2002 and has covered the local food scene for various publications for more than 25 years. He does his best to maintain his anonymity so that he isn't recognized in restaurants (which is why his picture looks like it does).
If none of the local owners didn’t I am extremely shocked and disappointed in them. I mean we have one of the oldest constantly running farmer’s markets in the country (which I recognize most people who do the farmer’s market thing don’t care to go to it much because of the crowds but still) and there were NONE???? No Soulard? No Kirkwood? (I live an hour and a half south so those are the only two that I know well from when I grew up in STL). If the owners didn’t sign them up then they are missing out on a major marketing opportunity. Come one people!!
