Breaking news: Dunkin’ Donuts returning to St. Louis soon

An intrepid spy saw the sign, and a representative of Dunkin’ Donuts confirmed the news: The company will be returning to St. Louis by the end of the year.
The first locations, two of them, are expected to open at the airport before the end of the year. One freestanding store will be located on Kirkwood Road near its intersection with Interstate 44; the spokesperson could only cite the other location as “north/northwest county.” (Give him a break; he’s working from Boston.) The freestanding stores are expected to open in early to mid-2010.
In February, 2008, Dunkin’ Donuts announced its intent to open “more than 100″ new locations in the extended St. Louis metropolitan area.

I saw the site of the Kirkwood store Saturday. It’s in the front of the Wal-mart shopping center, near Pizzeria Uno.
Darn it! I have been working on getting things together to buy a Dunkin’ franchise! I’ve been researching for months! Per the agreement, only one franchise will be allowed in our market for the next five years.. Happy it’s coming, but sad I missed out on the opportunity.
Oh no — that’s on my way to work. So much for my goal of losing 15 pounds.
As franchises go…there are far better options than a donut franchise. It’s a shame so many franchisees are lulled in to becoming franchise owners for such simple reasons such as “everybody likes ice cream” or “people love donuts”. Why invest $900,000 in a business that does 90% of its revenue between 6a-9a?

Why bring this franchise?…..because the coffee is way better than Starbucks and the breakfast options are awesome (egg white breakfast sandwich). Here’s hoping a franchise will open in Chesterfield.

We’ve got them all over Chicago. The cinnamon coffee rolls and the boston creams are the best!
(The maple glaze is pretty good, too.)
