Flu misery…How to keep your kids healthy in these viral times?

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

My colleague, Blythe Bernhard, reported in today’s paper about the possible record-breaking flu season. Read it here. It seems like everyone I’ve talked to has someone in their house battling this virus.

And, the grown-ups have been hit harder than ever, from the stories I’ve heard.

Our pediatricians office offered the typical advice: Make sure kids get enough sleep, eat healthy food, keep them away from sick friends and classmates, diligent and thorough hand washing.

But they also said that Tamiflu, which is often prescribed to lessen symptoms, is not working so well against this strain and pharmacies are starting to run out. Any one have suggestions on home remedies or better yet, how to prevent them from catching this bug?

Use disposable drinking cups. Don’t share towels. At the first sign of the flu, toss out your toothbrush and replace it with a new one so you won’t re-infect yourself.

I didn’t know it was possible to get reinfected in the same flu season with the same virus(!)

I’m sure that tidbit can be contradicted but when it comes to germs I find it easier to buy a new toothbrush than fight a second round of the flu.

Colloidal silver is supposed to work very well. Of course, you only take the recommended dose for the duration of the flu.

Good diet is very important too. My dr recommends staying away from all sugars when you have any virus as it feeds them. Lots of water, fruits, veggies, and rest.
