Does one night of no activities help?

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

In today’s paper, Jessica Bock write that Ft. Zumwalt School District has declared an activity-free night to encourage parents to stay home one night with their children.  You can read the story here. But is that realistic given all the extra-curricular activities children do nowadays? Do you feel like your family is “overscheduled?”

Will the athletic teams also call off practices?

Great question. I’ve called on Jessica Bock to answer this. I understood the story to say that practices were called off, but I kind of find it hard to believe that kids in various competitive activities weren’t practicing. Perhaps it just means no scheduled games, meetings, etc.

I just checked with the PR lady. She said the activity-free zone starts after 5 p.m., and any practices will be over by then.
