The dark side of girls’ sports

Torn ACLs,  chronic back pain and ankle sprains…These are the injuries plaguing the world of girls sports and at a much higher rate than boys.

The New York Times profiled a high school soccer player and her desire to keep playing despite double knee surgeries. You can read the entire story, titled “The Uneven Playing Field,”  here.

Is this a problem in the world of St. Louis competitive sports, as well? Do girls suffer more injuries, and if so, what should parents and coaches be doing about it?
