Are you a St. Louis area mompreneur?
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Are you a mom who had a business idea that you’ve turned into reality? We’d love to feature you in a story in an upcoming edition of Lifestyle. We’re looking for moms who have created and run their own business — not ones who are selling direct marketing items. It can be run from your basement or from a boardroom.
You can nominate yourself or a “mompreneur” you know who has combined the art of being a mom and an entrepreneur. Post your nominations in the comments.

Aisha covered education and breaking news for nearly ten years before joining the Lifestyle staff where she writes a "Dirty Laundry" parenting column. She is the home and family editor and wastes too much time on Facebook and political blogs.
I would like to nominate Christine at http://www.girlshopspot.com. Girl Shop Spot is an online shopping resource for today’s modern woman created by a woman who, like many others, is a business person, wife, and mother. The site is designed to be an online one-stop resource for one-of-a-kind finds, boutiques and specialty stores, and fun local shops and services that are normally hard to find!
I am mom to 6 great kids, wife to an amazing man and owner of Mama’s Sweet Treats and Breads. All of our bakery items are made fresh every day, we deliver and made only with the freshest ingredients. After tiring of mass produced “homemade” breads I decided to start making my own breads and sweets for friends and family. What has developed is an amazing bakery business with delicious goods made fresh.
My real job is being mom to my kids, homeschooling, and keeping order for our family in this chaotic world! I love both of my jobs and can be found at various farmers markets around the area including; Overland Farmers Market, De Soto Farmers Market and Byrnes Mill Farmers Market. I also do individual orders made to order and corporate catering. Fresh from my home to yours!
I would like to nominate my friend Kim Martino-Sexton, who runs a business called “Newborn Family Coach.” Kim is a birth educator, who has taught hundreds, if not thousands of couples about natural childbirth. She holds a very moderate view, with the outcome of “happy healthy mom, happy healthy baby.” Not only has Kim been a successful birth educator for over ten years, she has also been a doula, and answered the “mom line” at Barnes-Jewish. Because Kim’s been doing this for so long, she is a maven of newborn services, and connects new parents to other local “mompreneurs,” like cloth baby diapers, second-hand shops, pump rental services, etc. She should be easy to find by searching for “Newborn Family Coach,” Facebook, Angie’s List, etc.
I would like to nominate my daughter, Emily Filmore. She is a stay at home Mom/Attorney/Children’s Book Author. Emily has encountered numerous health issues the last few years and has continued to try to bring positive thoughts and actions to her family and those around her. She has recently written three books that are about spending quality time with your child. The series is called “With my Child”. Her first book, due to be released in about four weeks is entitled, “It’s a Beautiful Day for Yoga”. Subsequent books to be published in the coming months are titled: It’s a Beautiful Day for a Walk, It’s a Beautiful Day for Ballet, and It’s a Beautiful Day to be born. All of these books have been inspired by the interactions of Emily and her daughter. I am very proud of her and her endeavors. Her website is: http://www.withmychildseries.com/
I would like to nominate my sister, Cindy , the Stork Lady. In her “previous life” Cindy was an accountant. She has been a stay at home mom to her 3 daughters 9, 6, and 4 for the past nine years. In order to stay home, Cindy began renting the stork yard signs and expanded into birthday cakes, over the hill tombstones, and flamingo flocks. In 2007, she began running the Stork Lady’s Baby and Kid’s Consignment Sale. The first sale in Spring ‘07 was in our parent’s garage, the next sale, Fall ‘07 moved to a church gym. Now 2 1/2 years later the Fall ‘09 Sale will be in the former Macy’s store at Crestwood Court. Cindy is not only a “mompreneur” but she still finds time to attend all her daughters’ sports games, girl scout events, and volunteer at their church and school. You can find her at http://www.storklady.net Please everyone check her out!!!
