5 best ways to get rid of excess Halloween candy

I know a child’s sugar high and subsequent crash can be ugly.  I know most our homes are currently overrun with mini-Snickers, boxes of Dots and other teeth-rotting, obesity-causing treats.

But for pity’s sake, don’t throw it away. There more constructive ways to deal with excess Halloween candy. Here are my top five suggestions. Feel free to share your own.

5. Take it to work. Classic passive-aggressive workplace warfare. Sweet sabatoge.

4. Donate it. Food pantries seriously accept this stuff.

3. Regift it. Know someone whose got a kid’s birthday coming up? Offer to let them fill their goody bags with your excess loot.

2. Freeze it. Have you ever had a frozen Twix or Snickers?

1. Oh, just binge. Spend some extra time on the treadmill and make a dentist’s appointment.

Send it to the troops. I read these tips online: “Make sure that all of the Halloween candy you send is factory-sealed, and then stored inside multiple layers of plastic bags. This will prevent the candy from picking up the tastes of rubber and whatever else you package it with. Avoid sending chocolate Halloween candies, as these will probably melt before they get there. A good choice is the Halloween classic, candy corn.”

I agree with Cheryl. One of our local dentists (in Troy, MO) has a “buy-back” program where they are buying excess Halloween candy and then sending what they receive to the troops.
