Six months

I started working at the Post-Dispatch on Jan. 20 of this year. That means that as of this week I have been here for six months. I moved here from Hanover, Pennsylvania, where I worked at their small newspaper for about two years. St. Louis seemed huge at first. I can’t tell you how many times my GPS saved me from getting lost as I went from assignment to assignment. Time has flown by though. Sometimes it’s hard to believe I’ve been here this long. Looking back now, I’m amazed at all the things I have witnessed in these six months. I have seen tragedy, a community devastated by violence, homes destroyed by flooding. I have trudged through feet of snow looking for feature photos and felt my first earthquake. I have also witnessed the small daily miracles that often go unnoticed and met some amazing people. I walked the finish line with breast cancer survivors at the Komen race and got to go to prom with a homeless 17 -year-old girl. My job gives me the unique opportunity to really get to know and experience the community I now live in. It is actually starting to feel like home.
