A sifka and her baby at the St. Louis Zoo.

Baby Sifaka

On Wednesday I went to the zoo to shoot Joe Knobbe, for a story about unrest in Madagascar, and how it is affecting the work that the St. Louis Zoo, and Missouri Botanical Garden scientists do there.

While photographing Knobbe feeding a coquerel’s sifaka (type of lemur) sumac, he informed me that the animal had a one and a half month old female baby clinging to her tummy. I was fascinated, and lucky enough to get a glimpse of one of the zoo’s newest residents.

If you look to the right hip of sifaka in the first picture you can see the little head of her baby peaking out. The second pictures is a close up of the baby’s face and hand.
