Night Photos, Part II
I was so encouraged by the photos I took of the foggy St. Louis riverfront Monday night that I couldn’t help but stop and take more from the McKinley Bridge Wednesday night. I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity. The low clouds really made the photograph work. Once again, I underexposed by one and a half stops. I cranked the ISO up to 1250 and braced the camera on the concrete railing. I always hold my breath when I’m shooting long exposures so I don’t jiggle the camera. The long walk onto the bridge was worth it. I had spent a long, frustrating day trying to photograph the levee next to the Melvin Price Lock and Dam without much success. So, shooting this on the way home made the day worthwhile.

Great frame, JB.
Bravo Master Craftsman Forbes! How you managed to get this shot off with merely bracing against a railing on a bridge, I’ll never know.
Inspired by your Monday night photos, I eagerly listened to last night’s (Thu) forecast promising dense fog. While that may have been true for some locations, once again, hopes were dashed on the cobblestone riverfront. I don’t know if its the wide expanse of the river, wind currents or what, but dense fog downtown is a rarity. In fact, I think the last time was May 8th with some lighter fog on Sept 30. And even when dense fog arrives, it’s typically not ground hugging like it would be in a valley.
London, we ain’t.
