Nuggets of wisdom from those we photograph

As a photographer, I meet people almost everyday. While sometimes I get to know my subjects well, other times I’m lucky to know their names. On Friday I went to the home of Warren Moellenhoeff in south St. Louis. Warren is known for playing Santa at Grant’s Farm, but when I saw him on Friday he wasn’t in his red suit and hat. His beard and laugh were the only remnants of his Santa-ing.

He still lives in his childhood home. He’s an antique collector and has a house full of interesting artifacts, including several Santa figurines. One thing he pointed out to me was this small framed Thoreau quote. As an only child, he said this was great advice for him to follow. I’m no only child, but I liked the advice too.
