A Dark and Snowy Night
On the night of our most recent snowfall, my job was to get a photo illustrating the fact that it had snowed…even though it had not snowed yet. By the time the newspaper comes out in the morning, there would be snow on the ground but my early deadline is 9pm the night before. Fortunately for me, and the editor who called me to remind me of my deadline, the snow began to accumulate just after 8pm so I wandered through downtown with a 400mm lens looking for something. It’s hard enough focusing on moving objects in the dark with such a long lens but add to that the fact that I could not feel my fingers and there understandably wasn’t much activity downtown on this particular night (if I did not have to work I would be inside trying to stay warm too). This photo pretty much summed up what it was like for me and the few pedestrians that chose to brave the elements.
