Starting this week, hundreds of hungry photographers invade a small Kentucky town, as they gather for the annual Mountain Workshops, also commonly referred to as a bootcamp for photojournalists. It’s organized by the good folks of Western Kentucky University’s photojournalism department and its faculty includes some of the best photojournalists in the country. I’ve had some personal experience with the workshop, having been a lab tech there for three years, and once as a participant. What is it like? You eat, breathe, and drink photography for a week, with very little sleep in between. The last few years, they’ve added multimedia to their menu. And at the end, you come out a better photographer and maybe even a better person. It’s too late to play along this year, but you can sign up for the Fall 2009 workshop.
