Party at the Polls

What do you do when you arrive at your election polling place and find out there is going to be a six hour wait? “You wait” was the response I received from many people standing in line at the Velda City City Hall Tuesday night.  When I got there at 6 pm, most of the people who made it inside to vote had been waiting in line since noon. They said this election was too important and they wanted their voices heard.  They brought chairs and read books to their children who waited with them in line. Then a band showed up and a woman started making balloon animals for the children.  An Obama volunteer held up a sign that read “Party at the Polls,” which was what it was turning into. There was chanting and cheering. As the final voters were coming out of the city hall after voting a crowd had gathered and they cheered as each person exited with their “I voted” sticker on their chest.
