Pujols and Musial– a pinch-me moment
Every once in awhile I still get those pinch-me moments when I’m out on assignment.
A pinch-me moment in case you were wondering is– WOW–someone please pinch-me, I can’t believe I am one of the few people who get to witness this moment of history in-the-making.
Yesterday was one of those days.
I was assisting P-D sports photographer Chris Lee during a portrait session with St. Louis Cardinal Great Stan Musial and Albert Pujols for an upcoming All-Star game story.
The shoot went well. Chris was allotted three minutes and he kept it simple.
And then the unexpected, pinch-me moment happened.
Pujols engaged Musial in a conversation which just keep going. I wish I had an audio recorder.
They discussed everything from playing weight, bat length, to Albert wanting to know Musial’s approach to hitting with a two strike count.
Everyone in the room knew it was special moment, between two of arguably the best players in the history of the game

It sure seems as if Albert admires Stan. Hell, I know I admire them both. It would be pretty darn cool knowing that the guy about to supplant or at least tie Stan for the Greatest Cardinal Honor is respectful and admiring of the current title holder.
I’ve bumped into Stan a time or two and have nothing for admiration for him. I sure hope Pujols remains as grounded as he seems.
Any chance more of this shoot will be posted somewhere? I see the poster and the main photo on Commish’s article, but I was wondering if you guys might post up some of the other shots. I really dug the ones shot earlier this year with Stan and Albert in the golf cart, and I bet these are just as good.
Can’t beat what will eventually be the two greatest Cardinals to ever play just hanging out.
