High Sierra Fall Colors

Capitalizing on the release of Ken Burn’s specular series on the National Parks, I thought it might be worthwhile to share a few photos from my recent backpacking vacation into the High Sierras. We camped for five nights starting in Sequoia National Park and finished the trip with the last-minute addition of the epic hike to “Half Dome” at Yosemite National Park.

I LOVE nature. I LOVE being outdoors. And I  wish I lived closer to these treasures (if not inside the parks themselves).  Hiking all day it was impossible to ignore the fall colors.

Employing the lighthearted spirit of the J Crew catalog color naming convention, I have created some new fall color names.

Huckleberry Red

High Sierra Gray

And my favorite, Precipice Lake Blue

The only bad thing about photographing in the the Sierra is that when the sun is out it is always extremely bright. Besides that the Sierra Nevada is my favorite range in the country. Jealous!
