Missouri native claims victory in super-close N.Y. House race

Democrat Scott Murpy, a native of Columbia, Mo., is claiming victory in a too-close-too call Congressional race in upstate New York.

Murphy was his party’s nominee to replace Kirsten Gillibrand, who was appointed to the U.S. Senate seat held previously by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

When polls closed last night in the special election, Murphy was leading by a mere 65 votes of GOP opponent Jim Tedisco. Though the race will certainly be decided by uncounted absentee ballots, Murphy was with Gillibrand last night, declaring victory.

The race has been framed as a mini-bellwether to gauge reaction to the beginning of the Obama administration.

Murphy, a graduate of Hickman High, went to upstate New York after working for governors Mel Carnahan and Roger Wilson.

He has maintained some local ties. Fundraiser Matt Lieberman, part of Mayor Francis Slay’s campaign team, helped Murphy haul in some early cash.

Attending Murphy’s party last night in New York was former State Rep. Rodney Hubbard, now with the group Democrats for Education Reform, and Hubbard’s erstwhile campaign manager, alderman-elect Antonio French, who shot the above video.

A little premature to “delcare victory” in a 65 vote election, don’t ya think?

Since 10,000 absentee ballots haven’t been counted yet, I would guess this is a bit premature. The ironic thing is that Mr. Murphy is a self-stated “experienced venture capitalist and entrepreneur” from his own website. And multi-millionaire. I think that is great, I wish everyone were in that position.

I have no problem with people being successful. But doesn’t this conflict a little with the “class warfare” that a lot of our politicians / media people are constantly engaging in? Can you be a entrepreneur millionaire and also be for the people? My guess is yes, but our media says no.

wow…

shows how stupid…

llbean can be….

open seat was previously…

held by a female democrat…

maybe the area isn’t a bunch…

of shriveled up old, sexist, republicans…

Franken was down a couple hundred votes until the recount. Now he’s ahead. I know it is hard for you, bean, but try using a shred of common sense in your life. 65 votes in most contests call for an AUTOMATIC recount.
