Obama or Rush? GOPers asked to choose on stimulus
WASHINGTON — All eyes are on the U.S. Senate now in anticipation of debate starting Monday on the massive economic stimulus package put forth by Democrats and President Barack Obama. A version passed the House Wednesday — with no Republican votes.
Supporters are turning their attention to moderate Republicans in the Senate, and among their tools are radio ads highlighting radio personality Rush Limbaugh’s assertion that he hopes Obama’s plan doesn’t succeed.
Here’s a transcript of the 60-second spot being run in selected states by Americans United For Change along with MoveOn.org and two unions, Service Employees and AFSCME:
NARRATOR: ”Listen to what Rush Limbaugh said about President Obama’s agenda and his jobs package:”
LIMBAUGH: “I hope he fails.”
NARRATOR: “The Obama jobs bill overwhelmingly passed the House. But not one Republican voted yes. Every Republican member of the House chose to take Rush Limbaugh’s advice. Every Republican voted with Limbaugh and against creating four million new American jobs.
“We can understand why an extreme partisan like Rush Limbaugh wants President Obama’s jobs program to fail. But the members of Congress elected to represent the citizens in their districts? That’s another matter.
“Now the Obama plan goes to the Senate and the question is, will our senator (fill in the blank) side with Rush Limbaugh, too?”
On his web site, Limbaugh says that he is being used to distract from polls showing falling support for the “Porkulus bill. Senate Republicans need to understand that this is not about me. It is about them, about intimidating them, especially after the show of unity in House. It is about the 2010 and 2012 elections. This is an opportunity for Republicans to redefine themselves after a few years of wandering aimlessly looking for a ‘brand’ and identity.”

Neither Rush Limbaugh, nor I, nor anybody else wants Obama to fail.
However, wanting him to fail in certain aspects of his public policy agenda shouldn’t make someone a target by groups like Move-On.org, AFSCME and the ever-popular SEIU.
Although, I’m not surprised in the least that they would pull such intimidating tactics. It’s all they’ve got.
Uh, I’d side with Satan if he opposed this bill. The stimulus package is useless spending at it’s finest. I thought the last 8 years of wasteful spending was going to be halted. Seems like the democrats have stomped on the accelerator.
The people opposed to the bill in the house included 11 democrats. That means that the only bipartisanship was in the folks that opposed. Who says R’s and D’s couldn’t work together.
This bill has more pork that a Lutheran sausage supper.
Amen Rush
I believe to get the ecconomy to work is to generate Tax cuts for everybody. This includes big and small buiness’s.
If Obama want to help the American people, when he says stimulas this means money going into the hands of the American people Not all the PORK in this big spending bill.People who pay TAX’S.
While the adds quote Rush, they do so out of context. The plan presented to the congress is nothing but pork for the supporters of the “annointed One”
Capitalism has made us the greatest couintry in the world. Socialism has failed every it’s seeds have been plantes.
You do not tell the whole story. What Limbaugh wants to fail are B.O.’s Socialist policies. And I agree 100%. I pray for obama’s safety and well-being and peace and safety for this country, but I do not want him to get his “big government, more control over our lives” Socialist polices to succeed.
Rush is nothing but a thug, a POLITICAL TERRORIST working to gain ratings and money by say the most extravagant and outrageous things to stir fear and anger in America. its no longer one nation under God but one nation divided by some guy who claims talent on loan from God. What a joke.
You are right carlos. Only Rush Limbaugh looks to divide this country. No other entity, political party, or politician strives to conduct class warfare or buy votes with taxpayer money.
Obummer doesn’t need Republicans. Not one voted for the measure and it still passed. Why no mention in the ad about the 11 dems who voted against it. Sounds like Obummer and the looney left is being partisan to me.
