Bond: Obama “cherry-picked” intel documents to release
WASHINGTON — Sen. Christopher “Kit” Bond is not mincing words when it comes to his outrage at the release of those so-called torture memos.
Yesterday, Bond, R-Mo., likened the United States to a “banana republic” if decisions are made to pursue those who carried out controversial interrogation techniques.
“Now, to go back and start penalizing or punishing a previous administration is what a banana republic does,” Bond told an interviewer. “Our country has never done that, and I think this is a terrible step in the wrong direction.”
Bond, the ranking Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, put out a news release accusing President Barack Obama of “flip-flops on the treatment of our terror fighters … Our freedom-fighters need to know whether the president has their back or will stab them in the back.”
As the debate over congressional involvement in past techniques intensifies, Bond is not letting up.
Today, before heading off to an Intelligence Committee hearing, Bond charged the Obama administration with politicizing national security. He was referring to a letter circulated by Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair saying that some of the interrogation methods being discussed led to “high-value information” and gave the U.S. government a better understanding of al Qaeda.
“The adminstration has cherry-picked the release of classified information that only tells the side of the story they want to share,” Bond said.
Bond could have more to criticize of the administration heeds a request made this afternoon by the American Civil Liberties Union to release classified materials about the Bagram prison in Afghanistan, where hundreds of people are being held.
The ACLU wants identities, citizenship, place of capture, length of confinement and other information on some 600 detainees, some moved there from other parts of the world.
“When prisoners are in American custody and under American control, no matter the location, our values and commitment to the rule of law are at stake,” said the ACLU’s Jonathan Hafetz.

But what did we really expect from the least qualified presidential candidate in modern times ??
Are there no Scoop Jackson types left to keep the Democrat Party from this insanity?

It is nice to see that Senator Bond’s short-term memory is still functioning well enough to memorize the RNC/Karl Rove script. His points were uttered in almost the exact same order as Sen. Ensign and the rest of the Tories.
Of course they conveniently forget that these “authorizations” were given under the Tory administration and Tory majority in Congress.

Representatives of this government violated international law, and the Geneva Convention, as regards prisoners. Everyone involved should be prosecuted. Not one of the people had a gun to their head when it came to performing these duties.
If we prosecute those responsible, maybe the next time we have an unethical president, like Bush, folks will quit their jobs, rather than sell their souls.
Bond can just sit on it. And twirl.
I truly believe Obama would sell his soul to the devil if he saw a political opportunity in it. He places our country in grave danger, and I wonder who will be the first to scramble behind the coattails of the brave when we are once again the targets of terrorist activities?
Perhaps if Obama had served in our military and seen first hands the ravishes of war and the taking of American lives rather than living the high life in Chicago politics, he would understand and respect what our forefathers gave their lives to protect.
I’m ashamed that he is our President, I’m embarrassed at his naive actions, and resent the fact that he is placing the lives of my family and friends in great danger.
I just hope and pray that by the time he goes out of office, there is not irreversible damage to our country.
I couldn’t be happier that Bond is getting the heck out of office. I want someone who respects the rule of law to represent our state.
gamecock - South Carolina fan are you?
Make one salient and germane observation on the repetitive nature of the language of several of the New World Tory party members not only using some of the same language but also in the exact same order without any real thought put into it — then somehow this is “unfair”.
I dislike it when either side tries to “stay on message” so literally. If this is how politics are going to continue to be conducted, then let’s just hire a bunch of actors who can enunciate well and are easier on the eyes than Bond, Rove & Ensign. I’m thinking Hallie Berry, Beyonce Knowles, type of actors.

Why would President Obama want anything to do with Dick Cheney?

As to my use of Tory/tories cf.

While am tempted to say that all of the definitions apply to the late Republican GOP, the platform described is still the same.
Only a TRAITOR would take the action Mr. Obama has taken by publicizing this information.
And now he has hidden the Gitmo closure authorization in the military funding bill which is essential to the safety of our troops. There is obviously no level to which this man will not stoop to achieve the goal of his Islamic God to destroy our country.
Gitmo is only the tip of the iceberg. Every day this man fulfills more of the commitment of the religion of his childhood. After 9/11, the “Nation of Islam” claimed credit for the destruction of the twin towers and promised to destroy us from within. Their promise was not to “defeat” us, but to “destroy” us. And the promise was to destroy us from within. They are rapidly fulfilling that promise.
Under the direction of Mr. Obama, our country and our liberties are being systematically destroyed at this very moment. And it is being accomplished at the expense of the American tax payer. Our economy, our security, and our freedoms are in shambles.
In less than 100 days of Obama’s leadership, we have daily made more steps toward becoming a Fascist country than at any time in history. And each step is supported by liberals who have been duped by Mr. Obama and the talking heads with the intelligence only to read the words on a teleprompter that has been bought and paid for with Islamic petro dollars.
PLEASE continue to stand for liberty Mr. Bond. Please do not abandon your country at this critical time.
