Human Life International lauds archbishop’s stance on Crow
In an email this morning, the president of Human Life International, the Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, “applauded the stand taken by Archbishop Raymond Burke of St. Louis in his resignation from the Board of Directors and his chairmanship of the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation.”
As most of the region knows, the archbishop resigned to protest the foundation’s decision to invite singer Sheryl Crow to perform at a fundraiser last Saturday for the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center.
Crow supports abortion rights, and appeared in an ad last fall in favor of Amendment 2, which protects in Missouri all forms of embryonic stem cell research allowed under federal law.
Said Human Life International: “She does not deserve a platform in a Catholic institution which gives the impression that she is in good standing with the Catholic Faith. She is, in fact, an enemy of the Church and should be regarded as such.”
” ‘While Sheryl Crow wants to save the planet one sheet of toilet paper at a time, ‘ Father Euteneuer said, ’she cares little for the tiny human lives that are flushed by those she supports. ‘ “
(He was referring to Crow’s recent statement in favor of using less toilet paper, as an environmental move to save more trees.)
In February, the archbishop received Human Life International’s Cardinal von Galen Award, in honor of his outspoken stands to “defend the innocent and the Church.”
Father Euteneuer added in today’s statement: “Here we have an archbishop who speaks openly about the salvation of souls, including his own, in the conduct of his office as bishop. It is very refreshing. He understands the disconnect between supporting a Catholic children’s hospital and promoting abortion and human embryo destruction. He will also be ridiculed by those who don’t see the glaring irony. Thank God for this bishop who is not cowed by human respect or criticism in defense of the souls and lives of his flock.”

I have one question for the good Father, a man who preaches caring and good will toward men…would Jesus have made such a comment?
Those who control the Roman Catholic Church can say and do whatever they want. If you disagree with them then leave the Church and quit giving them your money. That’s what I did a long time ago.
Please note that Burke* didn’t ask anyone else to change anything else⦠he held to his beliefs and walked away rather than be a part.
His right.
* none of this should be taken as support for Burke⦠he is still, in my opinion⦠not a very nice person. He just did “right’ this time. Oh, and I’m not Catholic
It is undeniable fact that humanoid organized religions have caused more death and destrution than all other species of animals. Rats .. the long tailed rodents are far back in 2nd place.
a WAR was started by the Most famous Christian who ever lived, He forbade abortions. He required Titheing to to the Church.
Want to know his name? ADOLPH HITLER.
When will people use common sense and stop being brainwashed into some ridiculous religion. All religions have one thing in mind, seperating you for your money, controlling your behavior in whatever way they choose.
All religions are invented by man for the control of others, moneytary greed, and sexual relief, to name the top 3 reasons.
Thank you Archbishop Burke for not giving in to a continually desensitized world. You set a strong example to us and our children and we thank you. I have a question for those “Catholics” who continue to bad mouth you: Just how many issues of the Catholic faith do you pick and choose to live by? I didn’t think our Catholic faith could be individually personalized. Please read the Catechism and learn your faith. If it is not suitable for you, pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit or stop calling yourself Catholic.
Archbishop Burke is obviously a man of faith and principles uses them in his day to day thought process.
Cheers to the Archbishop for sticking to his guns.
Need more leaders like him.
Working with people who don’t agree with you is wrong. Refusing to help sick women and children takes the courage of a real leader!
WWJD?
Regardless of what we think about abortion, Archbishop Burke has been faithful to the duty of his position here, which is to teach and live the doctrines of the Catholic church. And while there are many who disagree with the position, the Catholic church has been clear and unwavering regarding their position on abortion, and stem cell research. For those who disagree with the position, the Episcopal church is socially and doctrinally progressive, and liturgical.
Ok, those of you who follow this blog know me to be conservative and unapologetically pro-life. Having said that, I must strongly disagree with the Archbishops actions with regards to the Cardinal Glennon fund raiser. Did it really accomplish anything? Did it really benefit the children, both born and unborn, for him to “make a point?”
Without devulging any personal information, let’s just say I have some experience with that hospital and the staff. Were it not for their intervention…………
Sure Bishop Burke got a lot of media attention, both locally and nationally, but was it worth the poor exposure given to the pro-life movement? We have enough problems in the media without giving our citics a baseball bat and then sticking our heads out over the plate.
What a P.R. guru. Given the Catholic Church’s poor public image over the last 10 or so years, was it really a win-win? Standing on principals is fine, but when you have past problems like the Catholic Church, do you really have the luxury or principals?
Oooooopps! Principles not principals!:)
