A big Law & Order Fan? Bearden blogs for Thompson

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Thanks to the Columbia Daily Tribune’s political blog, we learn that one of Missouri’s most prominent legislators has taken his adoration for possible Republican presidential contender Fred Thompson to the Web.

House Speaker Pro Tem Carl Bearden of St. Charles County has started a blog, “Fred Thompson-N-Mo,” to help persuade the actor and former Tennessee senator to make a run for the White House.

Bearden’s first post went up this morning:

In that past few months I have been very active in calling for Senator Fred Thompson to run for the office of president. I have voiced my support to hundreds of Thompson supporters in Cookeville, Tennessee, I have made numerous statements to the press, and I have garnered two-thirds my Missouri House Republican Caucus’ signatures for a Draft Thompson petition. Today I am launching my new blog to fully explain why Fred Thompson is our party’s answer in ‘08.

Bearden went onto to extoll Thompson as “the next Great Communicator,” praising him for in 2003 walking away from the Senate — “the world’s most elite club.”

The blog is part of a growing number of sites designed to “draft” Thompson, who is yet to make his political aspirations clear. One in particular, linked by Bearden, tells you all you need to know about the high hopes some conservatives have for Thompson - the address of the page is AnotherRonaldReagan.com.

Fred Thompson would be a wonderful candidate, and perhaps also a great president. That’s more than I can say for the top tier of candidates in both parties at this moment. His entrance into the race would invigorate Republican voters, and bring new hope for strength and dignity to the White House. I’m grateful to Rep. Bearden for spearheading this effort in Missouri.

What is it with the right and their love of 2nd tier actors as leaders? Reagan, Thompson, the guy who played Gopher on the Love Boat. I thought you people hated Hollywood.

What about Ahnold? He’s top tier.

Glic, you left out Ahnold…Bearden wants to take millions of dollars in state funding from public education and give it to private universities through a voucher program. The public education system needs more cash, not less. Bearden is a developmental official at Lindenwood University in St. Charles. No conflict of interest there.
I wonder what his motivations are with Hollywood? Maybe because it rhymes with Lindenwood.

I know the Republican ‘08 presidential bench is embarrassingly shallow but I still don’t get the infatuation with Thompson. Besides acting on Law and Order, what accomplishments does he have? Thompson brings nothing to the table, except a lack of paper trail attesting to his putative conservative bona fides (which is a feature, not a bug).

Can you all, just sit back and think for a moment…

In your mind’s eye, imagine Fred Thompson in a debate with Hillary

In your mind’s eye, imagine Fred Thompson in a debate with Obama

Who is going to look like the President?

Who is going to sound like a President?

You could listen to this guy read from the phone book.

Democrats… be afraid, be very afraid…

Really want to know why we, the GOP base, are “smitten’ with Thompson?

Be sure to check out his answer to Michael Moore…

Garrison:

Therein is the difference between the left and the right. The right wants kids to get an education. The left only wants to “feed the beast of government”… in this case government education.

A conservative is better then any liberal in the Oval Office and none of the top three Republican candidates cut the mustard for me. Duncan Hunter is more my style, but he doesn’t have the charisma or name recognition to win. Thompson brings a strong presence, name recognition and conservatism with a fairly good record to the table.

Fred Thompson brings the name recognition of McCain and Guiliani and the conservatism of Huckabee or Hunter. He also has plenty of Washington experience before and after being a Senator. He’s not just an actor. In fact, he was involved in politics and Washington well before he ever began acting.

The Democrats are probably hoping for Guliani, McCain or Romney to get the nod in 08′. They should consider the possibility of Fred Thompson coming on the scene, by the end of summer, and taking away the limelight. Why are they so interested in raising money now when the first primary is months and months away?

What about Ahnold? He’s top tier.

That’s subjective.

You could listen to this guy read from the phone book.

Yes, he’s an ACTOR. The Fred-Heads love him, I know, but….
