Blunt decries Iowa judge’s gay-marriage ruling

Gov. Matt Blunt renewed his call Friday for a federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, in the wake of an Iowa judge’s ruling that briefly tossed out the state’s gay-marriage ban.

The judge later imposed a stay on his own ruling, at the behest of the local district attorney, until the Iowa Supreme Court can consider the case.

In the brief window, two gay men got married.

Said Blunt in his statement:

“This is a very disappointing ruling against a sound law that reflects the will of the people.

“I, like the majority of Missourians, believe that marriage is between one man and one woman. In 2004, with my strong support, Missouri protected traditional marriage by putting it beyond the reach of renegade state judges like this Iowa District Judge.

“If we do not define marriage then reckless and misguided judges will define it for us. The latest news from Iowa is yet another clear indication of the need to protect traditional marriage within the United States Constitution. As I have said before, I urge all members of Missouri’s Congressional delegation to support an amendment to protect traditional marriage.”

Republicans and Democrats both continue to miss the boat here. The simple solution is, government needs to get out of the marriage business entirely. If the government was only providing civil unions, they wouldn’t be “trampling on marriage.” Then, for those not satisfied by a civil union, they could get it rubber stamped by the religious person of their choice.

Amen Nick! Why is anyone in the government concerned with who marries who? To Gov. Blunt, your agenda continues to be heartless and hateful. I certainly hope that when the next chance comes the majority of Missourians will vote to end the Blunt trauma that we have been experiencing for way too long now.

When Republicans show intolerance, discrimination, and hatred against gays, they eventually live a life of depression and self-denial and end up playing footsies in the men’s room at the airport.

For some historical perspective, let’s put Gov. Blunt’s comments in the context or interracial marriage. In 1967, a U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturned bans on interracial marriage adopted by several states (including Missouri). If Matt Blunt were Governor then, his comments would read:

“This is a very disappointing ruling against a sound law that reflects the will of the people.”

“I, like the majority of Missourians, believe that marriage is between one man and one woman of the same race.”

One can only hope that 50 years from now, Gov. Blunt’s recent comments will appear as archaic and outdated as they appear to many of us today.

To Ron2: I have looked at the picture a couple of times now and I can’t figure out what you are getting at. He looks to be dressed just fine!

and let’s not forget that Baby Blunt also was trying (behind the scenes or course) to BAN gay couples from adoptions in MO as well.

He is a mean-spirited religious zealot-nothing more and nothing less. To think that someone who allegedly cares so much “about the children” would go to such extremes to keep them from being allowed into loving homes just boggles the mind.

Remember that ANY heterosexual can have children with no restrictions…but adoptive parents must submit to criminal background checks, psychological evals and even be fingerprinted…but according to Blunt, they can pass all of these with flying colors and still not be “qualified” to adopt children-simply because of their sexual orientation.

To put it “bluntly,” he apparently feels that the single most important factor in being a good parent is what you have hanging between your legs AND how you use it.

He is a ridiculously ignorant and harmful individual whose rhetoric grows more and more tiresome every day…were his last name not Blunt, we would never have heard of this country buffoon and his retarded stabs at public policy.

I for one am against gay marriages and think that it is for more important that those of us who proclaim to be Christians ourselves behave as Christians and stop worring so much about what non-Christians are doing. It is for more important that those proclaiming to be Christians began judging themselves honestly under God’s light.
