Bush, Clinton, Obama, McCain, F. Thompson to make appeals to VFW

According to Missourinet (reached via Combest), a lot of famous faces will be at the coming week’s VFW national convention in Kansas City.

Among them:

President George Bush is listed as a speaker. A VFW spokesman told Missourinet that “Democrats Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Barack Obama (D-IL), and Republicans John McCain (R-AZ) and Fred Thompson (R-TN) are confirmed speakers.”

Douglas Lute, the “war czar”, was on NPR on Friday. He said the military is under stress and we should consider implementing a draft. I am curious to hear what others think about re-instating the draft. As the mother of a draft-age son, I am very much opposed. Furthermore, I am surrounded by republicans here in West County, and I don’t know one kid who has enlisted in the military. I can’t imagine any of my republican friends wanting their kids sent to Iraq, either. How about you?

Fatigue cripples US army in Iraq
“The army is worn out. We are just keeping people in theatre who are exhausted,” says a soldier working for the US army public affairs office who is supposed to be telling me how well things have been going since the ’surge’ in Baghdad began.

THE LOTTERY
The first to be called, in a sequence determined by the lottery, will be men whose 20th birthday falls during that year, followed, if needed, by those aged 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. 18-year-olds and those turning 19 would probably not be drafted.

Fred Thompson is just “W” warmed over—only worse! The guy sold working people out and gave us the S & L crisis to the tune of $55 billion. Then Fred Thompson registered as an agent for a foreign government and spent his next time selling out injured workers dying from exposure to concealed dangers from asbestosis by exempting his foreign corporate masters from liabilty.

Go away, Fred, we don’t want you in the White House! We’ve had enough of W, we don’t want you, either!

Timbo, you would very much like for Fred to go away. Your simple attack on him shows your fear. As long as it’s not a Clinton, Bush, or for Timbo, Edwards, I’ll consider them.

The fact that Timbo hates Fred makes me like him even more.

Well, Timbo, we actually agree on something. Thanks for giving me more reasons not to like Fred. However, I find it a bit ironic as a lawyer yourself who supports slimey trial lawyer Edwards who bankrupted doctors and insurers while channeling dead babies, that you would attack Fred for also being a trial lawyer. Thanks to Edwards, our healthcare insurance costs have skyrocketed. Thanks, John!
