Giuliani finds that early bird doesn’t get the worm

A representative for former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a Republican, was the first to file for Missouri’s Feb. 5 presidential primary, within minutes after Tuesday’s 8 a.m. start.

But Giuliani will be fourth, not first, on the Republican ballot. That’s because he didn’t win the lottery of first-day filers to determine ballot order.

The hallowed first-on-the-ballot spot goes to U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Tex., even though his stand-in was the third to file among the five Republicans who submitted first-day paperwork.

On the Democratic side, U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., came out on top. Her stand-in also was the first Democrat to file papers. A couple hours later, a representative for U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., also filed.

The other Republicans who filed, and their ballot order, are: former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee (2nd); former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (3rd) and U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona (5th).

Alert! Reid Calls For Cloture On Dream Act Amnesty!
The Ross Report
by Richard Ross of Conservatives with Attitude!

Senate Majority Leader Reid (D-Nev.) has just filed for “cloture” on S. 2205 (the DREAM Act amnesty). In an email to NumbersUSA members Roy Beck said, “Sen. Reid is hell-bent on getting this amnesty through the Senate as fast as possible and before we can fully mobilize the country as happened when we defeated his Comprehensive Amnesty bill in June. “

“If Americans don’t phone Tuesday until the switchboard shuts down, it looks like we’re going to have a brand new amnesty for illegal aliens coming out of the Senate later this week,” said Roy Beck of NumbersUSA.

From our friend Roy Beck at NumbersUSA:

This is not a drill. This is the real thing.

A massive amnesty for illegal aliens is probably coming up for a vote Wednesday in the Senate.

Our Capitol Hill Team just contacted me and reported that Senate Majority Leader Reid (D-Nev.) has just filed for “cloture” on S. 2205 (the DREAM Act amnesty).

PLEASE CALL YOUR TWO SENATORS AND PLEAD THAT THEY VOTE “NO’ ON THE S. 2205 CLOTURE ON WEDNESDAY.

Phone Senate Switchboard
202-224-3121

Here is something pretty amazing: After the American people overwhelmingly rose up against the big compromise in June that traded an amnesty for some mediocre extra enforcement, Sen. Reid is trying to push through an amnesty WITHOUT ANY ENFORCEMENT MEASURES!

He is using the Rule 14 that I told you about last night to avoid any committee debate, hearings or deliberations. Filing for cloture means that he can bring the amnesty up on Wednesday.

The first vote will be on whether to allow the amnesty to come to the Senate floor for full debate and eventual vote. If we can hold the YES votes below 60, we can stop the bill in its tracks. We need 41 NO votes to guarantee killing it.

You can see all the direct Capitol office phone numbers and the numbers for their offices back home at:
http://www.numbersusa.com/congressinfo/

You must emphasize to your Senators that a YES vote on cloture will be interpreted by all of us as a vote for rewarding millions of illegal aliens with amnesty.

Loyal Republican: Your post is WAAY off topic, and too long. It needed to be posted on the Open Comment line, if there’s no other related thread. Since I’m compassionate, I’ve left your post up for a few hours.

Please don’t flout our blog’s rules, or you will be barred from posting.

Sorry Jo, but this is urgent and you are the only political thread on the PD blog and I was not aware of this last Sunday. Although the DC group has become The View - the problem was that quite often I am unable to post on some blog comments because when I hit “Comment” I get the message “404 Error” and can not leave a comment and this happened to me last night on the latest DC post. Does this ever happen to anyone else? I see this Dream Act was in the PD today and I am surprised. Bill L said he was not going to cover it. Jo, I appreciate your generousity and promise not to do it again unless it really is truly an emergency.
