Next generation of Joneses, Carters prepare for run
Some familiar last names in city politics are looking to continue the family business in next year’s State House races.
In northwest St. Louis, Chris Carter is looking to replace State Rep. Connie L. Johnson, who is being forced out by term limits.
Carter, 26, is a former aide to State Sen. Jeff Smith and the grandson of the late State Sen. Paula Carter. Chris’ uncle, veteran Alderman Greg Carter, is coordinating his nephew’s first run for office.
Carter could find opposition from 27th Ward Committeeman Curtis Royston.
On the south side, the St. Louis American tells us that Tishaura O. Jones, a new mom and the 8th Ward Committeewoman, is hoping to replace State Rep. Robin Wright Jones, who is running for State Senate.
Tishaura, of course, is not related to Robin Wright, but she is the daughter of former comptroller Virvus Jones, who no doubt would play a key role in her campaign.
But earlier, we reported that Robin Wright Jones’ son Damon – whose father is Mike Jones, aide to St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley — might be running to replace his mom.
What a race that would be — I’m jonesing already.
