This just in:
Sen. Christopher âKit” Bond, R-Mo., will be announcing Friday that he is supporting former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani for president.
Giuliani, in turn, is naming Bond as a national co-chairman of his presidential campaign.
Bond — Missouri’s senior Republican — also will serve as general chairman of Giuliani’s campaign in Missouri.
The two are expected to announce their alliance in Washington Friday morning.
âSenator Bond believes Mayor Giuliani’s record of proven leadership and experience is what it takes to move our country forward,” said senior Bond aide Jason Van Eaton.
Bond’s decision puts him at odds with Gov. Matt Blunt and former Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., who are supporting former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
There’s also Lt. Peter Kinder and all those Republicans in the state Capitol who have endorsed former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson.
Still, Bond’s support of Giuliani wasn’t surprising. There’s been hints for months that Bond preferred Giuliani’s approach towards terrorism, 9/11 and the war in Iraq.
