Trash district opponents want to turn up the political heat against that idea
Opponents of trash collection districts in the unincorporated area of St. Louis County plan to hold a newsconference at 10:30 a.m. Friday to try to increase political pressure against the idea.
Organizers of the event expect several elected officials from south St. Louis County to criticize the districts. The event will be at Andre’s Banquet Center, 4254 Telegraph Road, Oakville.
Meanwhile, a group sponsoring an initiative to block the districts will try expand its political base from south St. Louis County by holding a meeting Jan. 31 in north St. Louis County.
The session will start at 6 p.m. at the Florissant Valley branch of the St. Louis County Library, 195 South New Florissant Road, Florissant.
The initiative also would eliminate minimum trash collection standards and require the county to open more recycling centers.
The petition drive’s sponsors will explain the goals of their effort and will seek signatures on their petition and volunteers to collect more.

I live in a municipality, so this won’t affect me. But given the total breakdown of law and order and horrible decaying of the housing stock in unincorporated north county, it seems to me that Mr. Dooley and the Council could find something more important on which to spend their time. This is about money and power, and NOT about spending the county’s resources on what is most important for the residents.
