Trash district opponents want to turn up the political heat against that idea

Opponents of trash collection districts in the unincorporated area of St. Louis County plan to hold a newsconference at 10:30 a.m. Friday to try to increase political pressure against the idea.

Organizers of the event expect several elected officials from south St. Louis County to criticize the districts. The event will be at Andre’s Banquet Center, 4254 Telegraph Road, Oakville.

Meanwhile, a group sponsoring an initiative to block the districts will try expand its political base from south St. Louis County by holding a meeting Jan. 31 in north St. Louis County.

The session will start at 6 p.m. at the Florissant Valley branch of the St. Louis County Library, 195 South New Florissant Road, Florissant.

The initiative also would eliminate minimum trash collection standards and require the county to open more recycling centers.

The petition drive’s sponsors will explain the goals of their effort and will seek signatures on their petition and volunteers to collect more.

I live in a municipality, so this won’t affect me. But given the total breakdown of law and order and horrible decaying of the housing stock in unincorporated north county, it seems to me that Mr. Dooley and the Council could find something more important on which to spend their time. This is about money and power, and NOT about spending the county’s resources on what is most important for the residents.

Nick, you are oh so right…this is about Charlie Dooley and his campaign contributors (Allied Waste and many of their sr. staff are very large contributors); it is about growing the size and influence of county government; it is also about those big haulers like Waste Management and Allied Waste wanting to put the small haulers in the county out of business; and lastly, its about political payback as John Temporetti, who is the former chief of staff to Charlie Dooley, now happens to be General Counsel for Allied Waste, and he is looking to use Dooley and the Democrat controlled council to pay back Dooleys contributor’s with big lucrative trash district contracts. Barbara Fraser, a generally nice woman, is having the wool pulled over her head if she thinks this has anything to do with recycling. And poor Mike O’Mara, and several South County state legislative Democrats, who are up for re-election this year, will pay for Dooleys Folly with strong anti-incumbent with anti-trash district voters this August and November….Bye bye Mike, it was good to know ya.
