Dooley’s campaign spends more than it takes in
More money left the campaign committee of St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley than arrived in the last three months of last year. The committee still has more than $59,000 in its campaign chest.
A campaign finance reported the committee filed Tuesday with the state Ethics Commission painted that picture of its activity.
Dooley raised $42,380 between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31. But it spent $71,381.57 and made donations of $15,989.40 in the reporting period. At the end of the year, the county executive at $59,203.70 in his campaign chest.
Among donors were zoning attorney Edward Griesedieck, and developers Behlmann Builders Inc., J.H. Berra Paving Co., McBride and Son and two of its top executives, Jones Co. chairman Kenneth Stricker, REJ Custom Homes Inc. and Simon Development. Several companies that work in the building industry also made donations.
Among others contributing were affiliates of Anheuser Busch Cos. Inc., Henry Givens Jr., president of Harris-Stowe State University, and Monsanto Co.
Dooley made contributions to Webster Groves City Councilman Kevin Gunn, who is running for the Democratic nomination for state senator in the 15th District, and County Councilwoman Hazel Erby, D-University City.
Much of Dooley’s spending was for consultants.
Erby, meanwhile, reported raising $12,469 and spending $4,107.69 thus far. All of her activity was in the reporting period.
John Eilerman, a top executive of homebuilder McBride and Son Inc. and Larry Chapman of commercial developer Clayco Construction donated to her campaign.
Among other donors were the Missouri Restaurant Association and the St. Louis Association of Realtors.
Political action committees representing unions of firefighters, gas workers, plumbers and pipefitters donated to her campaign.
Most of her spending was for fundraising.




How about the numbers in the the 6th County Council District race? Newcomer Democrat Steve Stenger is crushing Republican County Councilman John Campisi almost 5 to 1 in on-hand money. Campisi has less than $7500 on hand and Stenger is kicking his rear with almost $38,000 in the bank…is Campisi even running? Steve looks strong!
