Dropping out: Watch Blunt’s video announcement here
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
So, another slow news day, huh?
Speculation about what, exactly, is driving Gov. Matt Blunt’s decision not to seek re-election — and who will vie for the nomination in his place — seems like it will be the new parlor game in Missouri politics for weeks to come.
It will be an interesting few months in Jefferson City, to say the least.
In the meantime, here is Blunt’s thoroughly modern video statement — straight from YouTube.

I don’t think Matt Blunt made any tough decisions.
His Medicaid cuts weren’t tough. He followed the Republican game plan.
His decision to gut MOHELA wasn’t tough. He followed the game plan.
His decision to ride and hide on private planes, as opposed to state planes where he had to disclose his fellow travelers, was not a tough decision. He followed the game plan.
His decision to call for tougher legislation against the “thundering hordes” of illegal immigrants racing to Missouri wasn’t tough. He followed the game plan.
His support for increased ethanol requirements in the gasoline supply wasn’t tough. He followed the game plan and his lobbyist brother.
His decision to not follow the law on public records retention wasn’t tough. He followed the game plan, just like his fearless leader in the White House.
Governor Matt has shown little imagination and less concern for the people of Missouri, because he has followed a game plan that required no thought, no dedication and no commitment to his office, only to his party and it’s political agenda.
Monkaton - You’re right. Actually, once yanked health care from the the poor and screwed MOHELA he could have released his video then announcing he had accomplished what he set out to do and saved us all from the rest of his disastrous term.
I spit my coffee this morning after hearing Blunt claim he accomplished everthing he set out to do in his first term.
Well, if you look at state rankings [2008] you’ll see Missouri has dropped in education, income/earnings, manufacturing, retail trade, foreign commerce, housing starts, and medical research……The only numbers increasing in Missouri are the uninsured and the those living below the poverty line……Oh, wait,…. the divorce rate is up too.
Job well done, Governor.
