From colonel to lieutenant? Jackson say he’ll run

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Say hello to the latest player in the game of political musical chairs begun by Gov. Matt Blunt’s decision to drop out of the race: former state rep Jack Jackson, who just confirmed he is running for lieutenant governor.

Jackson - taking advantage of the decision by Peter Kinder, the current lieutenant governor, to seek the GOP nomination for governor - said he will officially kick-off his campaign at a news conference tomorrow morning at the Capitol Rotunda in Jefferson City.

Jackson, from Wildwood, was denied his first time running for statewide office, narrowly losing the Republican primary for auditor in 2006.

Now Jackson, a retired Marine colonel and former test pilot for Boeing, must be thrilled to throw his hat back in the ring without jumping into the frenzy to replace Blunt.

I’m sure we’ll know more soon, but for now, here’s the colonel’s Web site.

Make the Colonel a Lieutenant! I think that has a nice ring to it Jo.

The Lt. Gov is an advocate for Senior Citizens & Veterans and he is charged with being a leader for the state.

Jack Jackson has dedicated his life to being an advocate for Senior Citizens and Veterans. I can’t think of anyone better to be Lt. Gov. than Jackson. Good to see him stay out of the Gov’s race as well. I think he’s a better fit for Lt. Gov. anyway.

It’s been said before but I’ll say it again: Go Jack Go!

Colonel Jack is a natural for the Lt. Gov’s job. I don’ t think there is anybody else in the state more qualified for the job. Veterans and seniors should come out in droves to support him, and his independent streak and combat stripes are just what Jeff City needs to keep all the “kids” in the capitol in line. If the party will back him up, he will beat the Dem Challenger in November. The party should make sure he doesnt have to face another bloody primary like he did in ‘06. He is by far the best candidate they could hope for.

Military officers who retire with the rank of Colonel or General in the Marines, Army and Air Force, or the rank of Captain and Admiral in the Navy are permitted to use thier ranks as a title in their names. To attain these ranks a great deal of training and education is required similar to that of an MD or PHD. Check Colonel Jack Jackson’s military record and you’ll see he’s earned the right to carry his rank with him. He is an outstanding individual who deserves our respect and will make a great Lt. Governor..

Colonel Jack Jackson has “The Right Stuff,” in more ways than one. I’d follow him anywhere. I’ll vote for him for Lt. Gov. now, and Gov., later!

An interesting race, a colonel vs. a doctor (Dr. Sam Page is the democratic contender). It will be interesting to see who Missouri thinks is more fit to help repair the damage of the last four years. Personally, I would want a doctor helping fix health care more than a colonel.

Jackson’s a nice guy, but if Loudon announces he has my vote.

An experienced senator with the ability to get things done in Jeff City, who fights for personal freedom and puts the needs of those he represents over his own political career is just the type of guy we need in the Lt. Gov’s office.

Lt. Governor John Loudon and State Senator Gina Loudon is a very scary thought and very reminiscent of the Clintons. Similar to the Clintons they would combine to create a toxic environment at the Capitol and within our party. If John Loudon is willing to sneak in legislation against the wished of his party (we all remember the mid-wives bill that acts as a detriment to our licensed medical providers) to fulfill his own personal agenda, imagine how he and Gina could conspire together to ruin our party.

In 2008 do not split the vote. Vote for a real leader. Vote for Jack Jackson!

And the personal attacks start already.

Grow up. Jackson is a good guy and a good public servant. So are the Loudons.

As for the midwife bill, I seem to remember it had majority support as a stand alone bill and was prevented from coming to the floor by one or two senators. And why is it that we are the only state in the nation that doesn’t allow midwifery? And how is midwifery Loudon’s personal agenda, rather than him representing the views of those he represents.

As for having the Loudon’s in office at the same time, I’m all for that. They have proven they put the needs of those they represent ahead of them, they are committed to the future of our state and they are honorable and decent people.

John Loudon has a long record of listening to people and acting on the needs of people in his district and around the state. I think that the midwifery bill story only further demonstrates his commitment to the freedom of every individual over popularity, money, or political correctness.
I, for one, am glad he’s willing to take the risk of being maligned and slandered to do the right thing for the “little guy” who can never write him a big campaign check.
I wish both he and Jackson the best in a campaign for Lt. Governor, and hope that they both choose to do the right thing - run a clean race on their own record, not trying to throw mud at the other guy.
