Jack’s back

As expected, former state Rep. Jack Jackson launched his bid for lieutenant governor today during a news conference at the Capitol Rotunda.

Calling the race a “sprint rather than a marathon,” Jackson said his experience serving on several committees in the House qualifies him for the job.

A retired Marine colonel from Wildwood, Jackson also said he’s in the race for good – even if Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder pulls a Matt Blunt and decides he isn’t in fact running for governor. (Not that it would happen, but after Tuesday, who knows…)

Jackson finished second in a close Republican primary in the 2006 state auditor’s race. The third-place finisher: Sen. John Loudon. Will we have a re-match on our hands? Stay tuned.

Let’s keep the field limited to Jack Jackson so we can have the best shot at keeping the Lt. Gov’s office. He’s the strongest candidate we can have to beat Page. He’s got massive appeal to seniors, veterans, independents and women. We will need someone from STL county to combat the draw that Page will have in the general and with Jackson winning almost 50% of the STL vote last time he seems like the prime candidate to do that.

We don’t need to split the field again and wind up with another Sandra Thomas or Al Hanson.

Each candidate for Gov and Lt. Gov. will need all the resources they can get to try and keep the office. I can only imagine how split the vote will be with the Gov’s office. Let’s give the downticket races all the help they can get.

Go Jack Go!

I agree. I think its crucial not to have this primary overcrowded. Jack gives the GOP the best chance of winning.

Why is Jack considered “hoosierville”?
If he is from Wildwood where there is a 3 acre minimum requirement per home, he is not considered a hoosier. Each acre costs about $100-175,000. Or does he think like a hoosier?

Joe, who the heck is this “we” you’re talking about? Republicans? St. Louis area residents? Post-Dispatch readers?

Instead of arguing about it…who wins. Retired Colonel who has dedicated himself to Veterans affairs and senior citizen needs….or ……A State Senator who has done good things, but doesn’t really fit the position. Should of run for County Executive Loudon.

Now that Sarah Steelman is in the race for Governor. John Loudon has the chance to do the right thing for himself and the party; Run for Treasurer. He has a much better chance by running as the “taxpayers watchdog” for treasurer than taking on a war hero who buried him in the auditors primary . The Lt. Gov is responsible for veterans issues and seniors and COLONEL Jackson who is in his 60’s has the support of nearly every veterans group in the state and will get a lot of seniors votes from both parties in the general. The good Senator can help the party avoid another devisive and expensive primary and help keep Republicans in both the Treasurer and Lt. Governors offices.

I agree. Peter Kinder for Governor, Jack Jackson for Lt. Governor, John Loudon for Treasurer and maybe we can get Rod Jetton to run for Secretary of State. With Gibbons running for Attorney General, I believe we have a Dream Ticket for a Sweep like the Dems pulled off in 1992 with the second injury fund scandal.
