Koster makes rounds at City Hall

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Five months after jettisoning the GOP, Chris Koster paid a visit to a building dominated by Democrats – with a few new friends in tow.

A candidate for Attorney General, Koster made the rounds at St. Louis City Hall on Friday, accompanied by a trio of pols who know the territory well: former Mayor Freeman Bosley Jr. along with State Reps. Talibdin El-Amin and Rodney Hubbard.

Koster, who I caught up with on the Clark Street steps, said he was introducing himself to various aldermen. Though he did not mention names, it’s a good guess they included Board President Lewis Reed, who has developed close ties with Bosley and Hubbard since they helped his underdog victory against Jim Shrewsbury last year.

Though at one time it might have seemed inconceivable that St. Louis Democrats would back a Republican expatriate from the Kansas City area, Koster has generated a buzz since his party switch. It also doesn’t hurt his chances for local support that he is a University City native whose father, Rich, was a familiar face on “Donnnybrook.”

Koster is the third attorney general candidate to pay tribute at City Hall. Margaret Donnelly visited a board meeting in October, while Jeff Harris bought the aldermen breakfast a week later.

While it is always a note when Koster is mentioned in St. Louis, I don’t speak to many people who think of the elder Koster and/or who make the connection with the younger Koster. It could also have a lot to do with the blowout ratings (tongue in cheek) of Donnybrook has always enjoyed in the St. Louis area.

I don’t think that bit of his lineage will help him as much as you good people at the Post apparently do.

Congress is truly an amazing thing. Clay represents a district where people are more likely to get shot than to suffer ill from inadequate personal data privacy from a federal vendor, he doesn’t know the first thing about information security, yet he’s introducing a bill about that. What a joke.

When you say generated a buzz you must mean a bunch of angry bees are ready to sting the man because everyone I know is supporting Jeff Harris or Margaret Donnelly.

[…] Chris Koster is making a strong pitch for the African-American vote. Earlier, we reported that Koster made the rounds at City Hall, escorted by, among others, Freeman Bosely Jr., the first black mayor of St. Louis. On Monday, […]
